Liberty High's Robotics Club Designs, Builds, Tests, Records, Codes, and Drives a new robot each year for each year's new competition. Each member of our team has different roles, they develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills while learning how to code in Python and C++. Each year they make it to nationals, which is a week in Dallas, Texas to meet and compete with teams from all over the world.
Held Thursday
2:30-4:00 PM
Practices split the team into four roles: Builders, Coders, Notebook, and the Driver. The Builders are responsible for constructing the team's robot for the yearly competition. Coders will develop the robot's autonomous period, during which robots operate using pre-programmed instructions, on the field after it has been built. Notebook members will take notes and record what they accomplished and their plans for next practice. The Driver will perform a test drive on the robots to see if they're ready for the competitions.
Our Robotics competitions consist of 50 teams participating in qualifying matches. Each match contains a 15-second autonomous period and a 1-minute driver-controlled period. In addition, there is a skills challenge where teams independently attempt to maximize their scores. At the end of the qualifying rounds, the top 32 teams are ranked, and the selection process begins. The highest-ranked team chooses their partner and compete in the Tournament. Possible awards to win at competition is Tournament Champions, Judges Award, Design Award and others.
Nationals happens on a larger scale compared to regular competitions. It involves hundreds of teams and over the course of 4 days, May 8-12, of qualifying matches. Afterwards, the top 32 teams are selected and paired for the finals. Attendees will be given tickets to the stadium to observe teams from different locations.
